Work

2007 — Present: Freelance writer/editor

  • I write features and news for newspapers, magazines, and Web sites. Here are a few of the places I’ve been published:
  • I am the editor, sole reporter, and chief cook/bottle washer for MediaJobsDaily.com, a mediabistro.com blog. I update the blog six times a day, five days a week. Sometimes more.
  • As copyeditor for LeitesCulinaria.com, I check much of the content for typos, errors, and make it conform to house style.
  • For a while (May 2008-May 2009) I also: Edited and produced “Getting Ahead” for the Washington Post Express, a free metro weekday paper with a circulation of around 200,000 (last I checked). I assigned stories, worked with writers, photographers, and interns to coordinate coverage. This position ended when the paper’s freelance budget was cut.
2007 – 2009: Part-time copy aide; Style section

  • I: Managed incoming correspondence (phone, mail, fax) for staff of 70.
  • Pitched ideas to the section; monitored the paper to stay abreast of trends.
2007: Features intern
Erie Times-News

  • Reported and wrote long-form features, A1 stories, profiles, news, and product reviews.
  • Proofed pages; wrote captions and headlines .
  • Worked with photographers and page designers to create and locate photos, sound, and artwork.
2006: Editorial Intern
Royal Media Group

  • Reported on banking, technology, finance, real estate news.
  • Assisted editors with research.
  • Wrote briefs for Web publication.
